This month we decided to launch an initiative to help those people who are particularly struggling during this weird period of global history. The acceleration of 'cash-less' transactions got me thinking about those people for whom using a contactless card isn't an option, the many homeless in our cities for example, how are they surviving the 'lock-down'?
Inspired by Patagonia's 'One Percent for the Planet' we wanted to do a similar thing (donating one percent of turnover before deductions) but with the funds raised going to help vulnerable people in our society who, for one reason or another, slip through the cracks of social care. Now, one percent of Patagonia's sales and one percent of Long Shot sales generate very different amounts, we figured that we could up our offering to five percent and so '5% for the People' was born.
We will be donating to a different charity each month, this month's charity is Rethink Mental Illness. If you'd like to nominate one please do get in touch.
